It was not Violet Gladstone’s idea to become a mail order bride. She felt it was foolhardy for a woman to leave everything behind to marry a man she had never met. However, when her greedy fiancé Ned jilted her for a rich woman, her friend convinced her to answer an ad. Soon she was exchanging letters with a nice widower who wanted to wed her. For months, they wrote to each other. All his letters were charming, except the last one. It contained an ultimatum marry him now or never. He could wait no longer. She wrote back that she would come right away, but she did not. Instead, when the time came, she turned in her ticket to Texas and posted an apologetic letter to the widower breaking off their engagement.
When Ned heard Violet stayed, he accused her of holding a torch for him and offered to make her his mistress. Violet scoffed at his lewd offer and his vile conceit. In a flash he was in her face, pointing out that a strong-willed 27-year-old servant was too old, too poor, and too disagreeable to find a husband in man-starved postwar Georgia. He predicted she would live out her life, a spinster dwelling in the servants’ quarters while she pined away for what might have been. That was all it took for her to pen another letter asking the widower to forgive her fickleness, and informing him she was on her way. There was no way Ned was going to ruin her dreams. She left on the very next stagecoach bound for Texas. Her fury kept her doubts and fears at bay for some time, but when the road got rough as they travelled farther and farther into the frontier, she regretted leaving Atlanta. When she really thought about it, being a spinster seemed like a pleasant carefree lifestyle and the servants’ quarters a safe haven. Her rationalization was for naught; it was too late to turn back. Certain she had left the frying pan for the fire, she stared out the window of the stagecoach as it rattled down the bumpy dirt road heading to her uncertain future. What if the widower would not have her?
This is the second edition.
Each book of the Westward Wanted Series can serve as a stand-alone novel because the main characters do not carry over from the previous books. In each, new main characters take up the torch while the lives of many of the former characters continue to develop within the story.

I agree with other reviewers this was sweet story and pretty straight forward. Violet went West as a mail order bride after her fiance Ned dumped her for a rich widow but still wanted her as his mistress. So Violet answers an ad for a mail order bride then changes her mind twice. Anyhow Josiah Kent the groom is devastated when she doesn't come so marries the rich widow who has been helping him & his 2 boys since his wife died 1 yr ago. There is no detail as what that relationship was so I couldn't really get into that; Josiah was a balding, red-haired postmaster in Waring Texas dominated by his 6 ft tall mother and a bossy brother & sister-in-law. While Annette was an extremely rich, beautiful widow of a judge. It would've made more since if she would've been a widow of the local mercantile storekeeper that l loved him so not sure I got that whole scenario. Of course the proof reading was a little disconcerting i.e balling for bawling; spurning his horse for spuring just mention a few. I would read Carrie's story but refuse to pay .99 for 62 page booklet but if you read Violet's story you pretty much have the rest of Carrie's story. This is a fast read, no sex but realistic sweet romance between Violet and Clint with Aunt Ginnie as chaperone. I did love her with her no nonsense attitude which was pretty typical of Western women at the time. She had been a nurse during the War when she met Clint's Uncle Gregory who was now deceased so he had to come help her with the farm. He really wanted to head to Bandara for a cattle drive but encountered Violet when her stagecoach crashed. The storyline is a good one and the relationship between Clint & Violet along with Tann & Carrie is truly sweet and worth reading. diamondgirlProduct details

Last Chance Mail Order Bride Violet Cowboy Westward Wanted Book 4 edition by Crystal Anne Tilden Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
My favorite book in the series. I didn't expect the ending. I didn't want to put the book down. Thanks Crystal for such wonderful, exciting stories.
Very entertaining story with deep consistent characters and wonderful romance. I love how clean it was as well. Highly recommend. Going to download more from the same author now. )
Enjoyable with a few twists and turns here and there. I love reading about Mail Order Brides - just imagining what it took to travel across the country (or across the ocean) to marry someone you have never met is interesting - and it really is part of the settling of the West. This book was one of those yes, I will; no, I won't - well, maybe... and then a few twists thrown in. If you enjoy reading about Mail Order Brides like I do, I think you would enjoy this one.
This was probably the least professionally written book I've ever read. Hopefully, it was the fault of the author's proof readers. Aside from that, the story line was sweet. Violet was a mail order bride & traveling to meet her groom. After Violet's stagecoach overturned, Clint found her & Mr Ross as the only survivors. He took them to his Aunt Ginnie's farm. This was a story mixed with sadness, confusion, matchmaking & love.
VIOLET said she would be Josiah's bride then changed her mind then write again to him she would be. On the way to him the stagecoach has a devastating accident and three men are killed. The horses screaming brought Clint to the scene. He rescues Violet and a Mr. Ross. The story then developed for Violet in a different direction. You will enjoy this story and Carrie and Tann are in this one too. Clint takes Violet and Mr.Ross to her s aunt Ginnie's farm for aid since that was were he was headed and she is a nurse.
This is standard mail order bride fodder, but it is a charming story.
The book's flaw is in the editing, I think, and not the actual writing.
There are a number of grammatical errors that are the result of dependence
upon spell check, which could have been eliminated with a cursory reading of the text.
Mu only criticism of Tilden's writing in this one is the occasional "crossovers" between
her use of the not-so-well educated vernacular and the use of words that those
characters wouldn't know and would not have been exposed to. That tended to
derail my reading, but I plodded on anyway because it was a good story.
With action and adventure built in, this is a nice romantic journey through some wonderfully convoluted twists and turns. Within the brief timespan encompassed in this book, our heroine, Violet is engaged 3 different times to 3 different men in 3 different locations, not to mention the time she spent claiming to be the wife of a man she wasn't married to! There are a delightful mix of characters in the story, some you love and some not so much. There are some continued story lines from other books in this series as well as some views of events elsewhere in the set from a different perspective. I think this was my favorite of the series and I can't imagine any romance junkie that isn't into salacious story lines of debauched sexual activities that will find fault with this exciting AND gentle love story.
